I’m pretty sure it use Gravatar for the forum-user avatars (that’s the correct term for the user’s icon on a forum, btw)
Just look for gravatar on google, and make an account. your avatar will be linked with your e-mail, that way all forums and sites that use gravatar will show your avatar, if you used the correct e-mail.

Correct, we use the Discourse forum software which, by default, uses Gravatar to provide avatar services. To create your own Gravatar, simply visit http://en.gravatar.com/ and follow the instructions on the first page.

Visit http://en.gravatar.com/ , create an account with the same email as the one you used to register here, and follow the instructions on the site. Hope that helps!
