Has anyone got over 7 on all there reviews on there first game they made for the company?
In the game? Do you mean the first game? Cause I have
How did you do that, please tell me.
You can, its just random luck. My last game’s first three (without a custom engine) went 7.25, 7.5, 8.25.
I did… but thats because I finished the game before.
First game:
- RPG
- Medieval
Focus on:
- Dialog
- Quests/Story
- World design
Release only for PC in the first level.
This should get you a 8+ game
Another golden combo is military + action, should be fully exploited after mouse research.
I can never get a score higher than 8 for Action/Medieval games…argh. I usually get perfect 10s on Racing Games only, its so easy to on there :L
Here is a tip: Your early games don’t really matter. You are unlikely to get your 9.0 ‘smash hit’ game until after you build your first custom engine. After you build that engine, generally the first game you make after that, (provided it is a good combo) will be your smash hit.
What you really want to be doing before your smash hit is using a wide variety of genres. This ensures that your skills develop somewhat evenly. If you are avoiding using the wiki, you can use this time to pick out a preferred genre and experiment to see what slider settings work well.
I personally make games until all of my skills are level 3. This unlocks the first level engine upgrades for each category. I then research ALL of them (having built up a bunch of research points from making all those games) and compile them into one gigantic engine. The first game I make with that will be my smash hit.
If you want to go for higher scores in the early stages, stick with RPG, Simulation and Strategy. Action and Adventure games both demand a very high focus on one type of development (Action likes lots of tech, Adventure likes lots of desgin). Since your character is evenly skilled in both tech and design, they are unlike to be able to focus your bubbles to the extent that action or adventure like them, even with proper sliders. If you alternate between RPG and Simulation/Strategy, you’ll practice a balanced set of skills for your character.
Once you’re in the 1st office and can hire more team members, you can cherry -pick some technology or design heavy employees who will allow you to really cater to the needs of action (high tech) or Adventure, and later Casual games (high design). Or you can just keep a balanced team, which lends itself to making good Simulation, RPG and Strategy games.
I’ve gotten 9.5 on my first game only once.
You are right Pinstar, but even being myself on the garage level, I can still get games over 9, I just always find myself struggling with Research Pts.
