Hardware lab: Upgrade and consolidate MMO servers

The maintenance cost of an MMO game quickly overtakes the income from the game. I suggest that the Hardware lab (that is otherwise unused except for developing consoles) gets a new recurring research topic “Upgrade and consolidate servers” which would allow the user to invest in new server hardware for the MMO games currently running. That would in turn lower the maintenance cost by say 25% or so.

This reduction would be an immediate event and the cost would then keep rising as normal, only from a lower level. You can then research the topic again to get another 25% reduction. Since it takes time to research the maintenance cost would by then be higher than it was before, so you couldn’t keep researching this topic to essentially eliminate the costs, it would just make the MMO somewhat more profitable.

Good idea, I admit that MMO’s need balancing in my opinion because you make lots of money easy but when you start to lose money, you lose tons.

Are you running 1.3.14 Sniper?

Thanks for the feedback and idea SGP!

My 2 cents:

MMO lifespan should have a limit that is tied with the review score.
For example a rated 10 should have a maximum life of 10-12 years ( if kept updated by expansions every 2-3 years )

Also an option to either have players of the MMO pay a monthly subsciption or just initial sales ( perhaps with some DLC options )

Nope, whoopsies, I gotta update hah.
