Charlie: Please keep this thread on its own, so it can act as a grand list.
Based on RL games and systems, there are a few items that are treated by the game as either ‘bad combos’ or ‘bad for this type of game or audiance’ when in RL, there are notable reasons why they were good.
I have a few based on my observations, but please add more as you see them.
Specifically, if you are noting a change, list the RL example to show that this change should be in place. Your example should be fairly well known by the gaming community.
Time Travel + RPG should be good combo (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/ChronoTrigger?from=Main.ChronoTrigger)
Horror + Adventure should be a good combo (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Franchise/SilentHill?from=Main.SilentHill)
The Vocabulary Topic should also be good for young audiances (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EdutainmentGame)
Virtual Pet + RPG should be a good combo: (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Franchise/Pokemon)
Romance + Simulator and/or Casual should be a good combo (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DatingSim)
The Super TES should have a small bonus to RPGs (FFIV, FFV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Fire Emblem, Super Mario RPG… to name just a few iconic RPGs released for the system)
Pirate + RPG/Simulation should be a good combo (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/SidMeiersPirates)
Please Limit responses to be just additions to this list, and make sure you provide examples or reasons why, or discussions of submissions other posters have made.
