GDT2: Evolving Consoles!

Consoles are neat. They provide the means of what Genre and Age groups you can release, thus determining the topic you can release. If you want a good score, you MUST line up all three +++'s and “Great Combo”. That said, it is “acceptable” to accept one ++ if everything else is lined up.

This creates a sense of pre-determinism, that I have a limited set of “options” from which only a couple at a time are “good options” and the rest are bad options. To correct this, and give the player a sense of Personal Agency in the game, I would like to see “Evolving Consoles”.

Each console will start out with what it starts out with. However every time you release a game for a console, the Age Group and Genre’s that the console gets —, --, -, +, ++, +++ to, should change over time as a variable. TES starts out as good for kids casual games, but if I release a Mature RPG’s for it, the TES should gain a random + in Age or Genre.

The bonus + given could be an actual bonus, or transfer of a + from somewhere else in the same category. So, the TES can either “grow” a point total +'s on Age Group, or it can take a + away from a different “Age” and re-assign it.

This would be great for a patch for GDT or even as a feature for GDT2. This will give me a sense that the “fan base” changes its tastes over time depending on my releases, making me feel like I have some way to influence the market.

OKay, nice and big(?) idea. But, It should be reasssigned only when you release a Epix game.

And, there is no 3 minuses only – - + ++ ++.
