Okay, so yesterday The Mirror (which is a newspaper in the UK) released a article called “Tragic teen gamer dies after ‘playing computer for 22 days in a row’”. A friend sent it to me on skype, i read it, and it was… interesting to read
But, it feels very much like a attack on gaming , which some of the press is calling a culture nowa-days.
While, yes the approximate 528 hours he was playing was extreme, it wasn’t the direct cause of the death, it was DVT (Deep Vein thrombosis, which they just call a thrombosis), which appears in 50% of cases where people have fractures. So does that pin it down to the health service? There’s a lot of factors involved of who’s fault it was, but that would start becoming political.
but pretty much, this is just a completely OTT article, made to target gamers, IMO. IMO it’s completely absured how gaming and the death of him can be linked, but that’s again a opinion, but we all know why they titled the article why they did… “Tragic teen dies from a thrombosis” doesn’t sound too interesting.
This is an article that stays around for 1 or 2 years and people are going to show this over and over again. And then some politics guy says that gaming is unhealty, and people are going to argue about that s**t for 1 or 2 years. But i don’t get why the parents of this gamer didn’t even knew their son was a non-stop gamer for 22 days in a row. But i hope his family is ok.
It’s like when the last generation was criticized for listening to rap music, etc.
They hate changes, when this generation grows up the same thing will happen with whatever new gadget they make.
First of all, the press makes things up or changes things to there pleasure to get more sales. The press shouldn’t be trusted to much. Gaming has caused deaths in the past, BUT very very very few like 1/100,000,000,000 that may add up to like 70 deaths and I’m probably wrong on my estimate but it is what it is. Gaming is fine people who die from playing it where already suffering from being bullied, being depressed and a whole lot of other bad stuff.
I’m not trying to cause a whole big talk in this discussion but I’m just about summing everything up and proving it all wrong. If you don’t agree with me then thats fine you don’t have to tell me that, or even go as far to tell me your opinion. This is my own opinion and its what I believe is true.
Any sane person knows that playing 22 days straight of video games is wrong. Even gamers know that. But this would have most likely also happened if he was watching 22 days straight of movies or tv shows. They just need something to blame it on, and of course games are the easy target.
Not for hardcore gamers. I do with 8 hours just fine, I can still focus and play normally, but well, I’m kinda different, because I take really long walks that last like 2 hours each day.
