I noticed that I sold about 10 million systems, but sold tens of billions of copies. This shouldn’t be allowed. 
All I know is that there is a bug regarding this im pretty sure.
I expect this will be patched by the Steam release.
I’m not part of the team or anything, though. I’m not privy to any secret knowledge here. It’s just what I expect.

Maybe people are buying additional copies to support the company that made the game? xD
