Game going off market at appropriate time

I just had a successful game that 672.3K units sold at Y6 M4 and it went off market at sales rank #3.

I’m not sure how realistic that is. I understand the game balance of not wanting to give too much cash to a player however this kinda ircked me. What developers no longer get income from a game when the game is rated #3?

It’s not based on rank, it’s based on sales. The sales generally follow an exponential decay, similar to the real world. When this falls below a certain level, the game considers the sales finished.

I totally understand the sales model. It’s the ranking model that I have issue with in this situation. I find it hard to believe that there are only 3 games on the market.

My understanding of sales ranks is out of “x” games on the market your current game is ranked, in this case, 3rd in sales. Then it goes off market. With that logic it would mean there are 3 games on the market and my game is ranked last.

If the above example is true then I don’t believe this to be much of model. My suspicion is that the sales rank needs to modified to reflect the sales figures and move in a similar exponential matter.

The sales ranks does move with the lifetime of the game. But 600K unit sales in Y6 is pretty good, so you probably started at rank 1. Was it reviewed as a 9+ game?

Yes, it started at rank 1, then 2, then 3 at the end. I just find it to be odd that it left the market being #3 in sales

I admit that’s a bit odd. I’ll be sure to tell Daniel about your feedback. ;D
