Ever thought of playing GDT (Game Dev Tycoon) along with your friends or with other players around the world? I certainly would love to experience this! Whether this is a popular suggestion, I don’t know but I’m sure many of you would agree with me!
GDT is a brilliant game and I have had hours of fun playing this game; I still am too! But recently I tried imagining how great the game would be if me and my friends were able to play in the same GDT world together! We would be able to compete with each other, playing through the years and releasing blockbusters games and consoles!
The specs of the online mode would be different to the ‘Campaign’ which would be what the game is now, just the single player campaign! When you start GDT you would have 2 options, Campaign and Online, when you start Campaign you would have 2 options, New Game and Load Game. With online mode though you would have to choice to either Host Game or Join Game. The host option would let you decide whether you want the game to be Public or Private, Private would let you invite Steam Friends with the game to play with you and Public would find others with the game and bring them into the game. So Join Game would find a hosted game for you to join! The host of the game will carry the game on their back so no servers from Greenheart would be required. 1 game would hold 4 players and their companies. The game would be on for 35 in-game years and at the end of this time the scores are added and the winner is announced. But if all the players vote to carry on playing the game can go on for ever! If 1 player leaves then their company is took away from the game, no other players would be able to join halfway through the game! The different companies would be color coded with Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. On the pause menu you will be able to see how the other companies in the game are doing with many options to see their stats!
I hope you share the enjoyment that I’m having with thinking about these ideas! I think it would be great if we got lots of feedback and support on this topic and perhaps even get Greenheart to see this! If we try hard enough, hopefully Online will be put into GDT and the game we play and cherish will become a big guy in Online PC Gaming! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Only one problem. The ecomony would have to be different than it is now. You can edit your saves to add money, fans, etc. This would really be bad for an online community. I really like the idea!
Uh, yeah I hate to be ‘that guy’, but…uh. HACKS. So many players from many different countries, and if the devs don’t implement a security monitor, it will be easily hacked.
I don’t like the idea. Even **more hackers will appear.**If GDT Online will be released, hackers would find a hack to hack GDT and it will don’t produce money for GG to make another hit game like GDT.
Also, game devs need to develop security programs to detect hacks and ban them. That will provide very good security and GDT Online would be successful in producing money. I like the idea if they install security program.
i dont see how people could “hack”…
you just have something where you can hist a server and invite people to, the server would hold all the data and allow people to connect to eachother
Rex, they can hack the game and give themselves a ton of money. They can give themselves fans for terrible games! They can give themselves AAA games before the final office!
Nonetheless, @Rex0099 does have a point. @Mikus, you’re being invalid. They won’t hack GHG and steal all their money, and even if they did hack GDT Online, I don’t know how that could possibly cause GHG to lose money.
You could have it where the host of the server could pick which mods are supported in that server, so people wouldn’t use mods that effects their own game play, while not effecting others. And for the hacking, you could have program that checks the db with all the info(money, fans, etc) and see if it has been modified by the user, if so, they get booted off. Or they could encrypt it where it would be unreadable, and wait till some hacker gets by that, then change it so that hack doesn’t work anymore. Just like other games. ALSO, you could have it where only friends can join your games, so if you don’t want a hacker, then don’t invite them.
I don’t see how someone hacking a game would effect the Game Devs? Only way I could possibly seeing them effecting them, is if the hackers piss off everyone, and they all leave. But that case is rare, and plus the developers would stop the hacking.
I think one of the better ways to do Online play is if it’s not competitive.
Instead, have a private (or public, will talk about that later) invite only room/game and you play starting on stage 2 of the game… The economy will be much harder to manage and the reviews, more harsh. Makes the game harder and more fun… You could also add the “regular” difficulty if you just want to fool around with your friends.
Public: You can have public games too but once someone leaves, they’re replaced with a NPC until someone else comes in. The NPC will have no stanima.
Other Online Mode: every player will have stanima but can be trained to have more. This would make the game more difficult and you would have to hire NPC’s or have a lot of players.
For competitive play, i agree it should be much like @kristof1104 's mod where you can sabotage your friend’s businesses but of course, that price will be very expensive. To own another player’s company, you must have something ridiculous like twice that company’s money so player’s don’t lose their company as fast…
As for the hacking issues, I don’t know how to combat that other than setting up servers or a server to not have mod-support. Maybe also a “Flag” option so some gm/mod can check that person’s progress and be able to kick/ban/warn the player…
The serves are rarely online and have occasional people here and there and finding a server that works is hard once you have gone through every one. It would be nice if there was a international online up to like a few hundred per server with many servers for different continents so more cooperation could be involved.
