Game Dev Tycoon , Ideas That Should Be Done!

Hey there, I see you have stumbled across my Topic and would like to say Welcome! My name is Anthony and this topic is about ideas to really make Game Dev Tycoon that hit game worldwide that we have all hit on the game ourselves  . So, To get this topic started, Heres a few Ideas I have, any ideas are welcome and will be reviewed by GreenHeartGames  .

  1. Multi-Topic
  2. More Console Design Options
  3. A Penthouse Office
  4. Make it so you don’t eventually HAVE to get a hit game
  5. Increase the variety of games
  6. Have rival companies releasing games/consoles on certain dates and you have to either beat them or outsell them
  7. Game Betas and Alphas which also means you should be able to Hire Alpha/Beta testers and they give you feedback on what needs more of what etc. So You can have a sim game with not enough AI and they review it and they say, It needs more AI, You then have an option to go back and “Rewrite” or in our case “Reslide” The AI so its better!
  8. At a very late stage of this game or a stable stage, Multiplayer. But not millions, I mean 1 - 2 or extreme circumstances 1 - 4 and you can join companies, Rival companies or work together with them to make a great game, Or secretly sabotage them!
  9. More Review Dialouge , Now, I always hear the same thing over and over again. Racing and Simulation is a great combination! I know its a small thing but sometimes people like the little things!
  10. Release the Games Source Code. You make a game and it is a HIT, And say you need a lot of fans? Releasing the games source could gain you say 1 - 7k fans!
  11. More than just 6 people in the third office, I really want at least 8, So we can designate a speciality for all of them
  12. 3D Graphics V8 and to get it you need 3D Graphics V7 @ at least level 9. V8 is real life, You can then also research Game Glasses which allow you to see say an FPS as if you are in the game!
  13. Buy other companies or companies engines/games . Cmon we all wanna buy Micronoft or Vony!
  14. More Topics. I want OPEN WORLD FREE ROAM  I’ve always wanted to make GTA under the name Grand Theft City. That would be epic!
  15. More researchables. I always finish the game so quick and the research is no problem. I would like more stuff to research to keep me busy!
  16. Stage Company Competitions such as challenge Micronoft to who can make a better console
17.More character customization OR a Company Uniform / Logo!!!
  17. Be able to buy better technology such as your computer, You get your casual 3 screen ones then maybe you could upgrade it to 4 screen NASA BEASTS!
  18. More training/better training options.
  19. Lower MMO Maintenance costs, They always cost me a FORTUNE!
  20. Make you be able to choose how long you wanna put into a AAA from 1 year to 5 years!
  21. Advertise your game while its out. So it could be dropping in sales so you slap 2m on it and it goes back up, But you can only do it once.
  22. More Hardware options WHAT I MEAN is instead of consoles you can also do laptops, Desktops, Phones, GamePads your choice.
  23. Allow other companies to buy shares of your company vice versa
  24. Get Fan Mail and if you read it and reply you can gain fains. But theres no loss if you don’t.

That’s all for now, I might come back with more because I still have loads more, But I don’t wanna take all of the good ones. So post below on what you think should be added in the game!

~Anthony

EDIT: New Idea!!! Just came to me, Why don’t we have GAME AND CONSOLE BUNDLES! Sell your old games with your new ones or have a game your working on sell specially with your console! Also have Trade in and pre-order!

I think it would be nice to know the current year in the game (1990, 1993, etc). Then I can name a game after the year like NBA2K12 or something.

Since we are suggesting things here, I suggest you remove “need” from the thread title.

Well it is a Risk/Reward system…

World of Warcraft has 50M /month server costs at only 5.5/6million subscribers, when you make an MMO with 50M subscribers the server costs aren’t much more than what Blizzard are paying in real life for a fraction of the users, I find that the MMO server costs are strangely cheap in this.

You would go bankrupt in a matter of months

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi, I saw this game yesterday on sale on Steam. So I downloaded it with a torrent, liked it, and bought it. I played it until 5 in the morning, so it goes by itself that I really enjoyed it. If not for some details that didn’t quite fit in.
The ideas of OP are nice, but a little pretentious. Instead, I’d be happy with just a more elaborate tool for creating games: the different amounts of time you spend on single factors of the game is too stuck on the game genre. What does that mean, when I’m penalized for putting more effort in the sound part of a casual dance game instead of focusing on the graphics?
It’s just a little counter-intuitive, without the wiki i would have failed oh, so many things. I made Crash Bandicoot for the PlaySystem, and it went totally MEH. I hope I made my point.
Meaning: I don’t need a penthouse office, but it’d be really awesome if you kept this game growing with further updates that expanded it.

P.S.: oh, and I’m always out of research points, that kinda sucks, but probably it’s just me.

I Agree with all that

Oh, and one more thing!
Games aren’t pulled from the market that early! They should keep selling a lot longer, fewer copies, maybe.
Also, a lot of great games become famous years after their release! You should take that into consideration.

Please remove tedious things from game. For instance, no ability to save my game build settings. It is fun for the first few times. After changing those settings on every game it’s no longer is fun. Allow us to save our settings.

Have a random namer for games and engines, was quite surprised that all we get is Game #13 or Engine # 4.

This has been pointed out several times, but cannot be said enough imho. The over abundance of clicking on messages.

Not bad suggestions. I personally think the player should be able to raise the difficulty, and perhaps add DLC to games. I also think they should add more purpose and customization to things such as MMO’s, for example, add options to change how much you charge customers to pay monthly. I am at year 80, and things such as this would certainly keep the game going for me. I don’t want to stop! This game is great!

EDIT: Like many others have suggested, the player should also be able to customize the consoles he/she make even more. I have no difficulty in making a console that has more market share than the others, because all I have to do is give it the maximum amount of money I can in the quality assurance section and give it all the features I can. I think, they should make it to where the player must adjust meters ( much like when making games ) in addition to the assurance budget, to add more difficulty to console creation.

  1. Oops, never mind, I was going to say they have Multi Genre already. Wait, why would you want Multi topic?
  2. If you mean the look, its just a look. I personally don’t like it when developers add a lot of things that are only cosmetic. If you mean things like making portable or trying to customize you platform/audience/genre match, then yes I agree.
  3. What would it do, or would it just be cosmetic? If so, see #2
  4. Explain. I haven’t been required to have a hit game…
  5. In what way? Tons of topics. Lets say there are 30 topics (not sure exactly how many there are, but there seems to be way more than 10x3 topic options) times 6 genres x 3 target audience means you have over 540 combinations. I am finding it irritating to find the best combos as is, and said somewhere else that I really wish you could spend research points to have your workers unlock all that or spend money in your R&D for it.
  6. Hmmm, sounds like that would, though it sounds simple, would completely change the game without really adding any enjoyment to it…
  7. You just have unlock that stuff beforehand, which makes this idea kinda pointless. If you already know AI needs +++ then max it out, if it needs - then put little or no AI
  8. Again not sure that would really add much depth, but then I’m not really into having everything multiplayer, not to mention their “motto” is game quality, not multiplayer.
  9. I don’t really disagree with you, but the reviews are the least interesting part of the game to me and I wish you could click to make them go faster like you can in the screen showing how much you leveled up from a game.
  10. You can release it as a random event. Oops, the rest of what I was going to say is incorrect as I mistook what you said for the engine, sounds like you mean only for a specific game? There is a random event like that, but really people wouldn’t want every game you make
  11. I agree, or so you can make more than one game at once, or have one training or on vacation without the review score being damaged, and to decrease the total time it takes to release a game. 1 game a year limit when you get to AAA? Though they probably limit you to 6 so you have to manage your team well…
  12. Ummm… That’s pretty much what V7 is… its description says “if someone makes a holo deck” something about it would be real life. Adding a holo deck to your console options on the other hand…
  13. Not sure that would really add anything to the game, but to each his own I guess.
  14. Are you serious??? There are too many already!
  15. You must be much more skilled than I am at the moment, I don’t get anywhere near doing everything by Y35. If you mean to research after Y35, then I disagree, but again to each his own.

17b
18. Again seems pointless to me, but if you like the idea I’m sure many others would too…
19. Hallelujah! And monthly/weekly subscription costs! As they are right now, you should NEVER make MMO’s. They make less profit over all than the regulars. Seriously, 10M in weekly maintenance costs after 2 years??? Better be the best game ever made!
20. Not sure that would be a good idea… if the 5 year one is 5x better quality and makes 5x the money, why would you make a 1 year version unless you are low on funds. Plus that would be boring to wait so long.
21. I would prefer to see the Marketing options tweaked. the Large Campaign seems to only have double or less effect on hype as the minimum magazine, except for a much higher price. WTF?
22. Agree, but what did you mean in #2 then? Just cosmetic?
23. Seems too off the wall from what the game is focused on now.

EDIT: uhhh, anybody know why my numbers get changed? In my edit screen it goes up to 23, but on the page it shows only up to 16???
I got it, decimal point required after all numbers or it changes. 16- 18 are one reply

If you are looking for more ideas, then:

  1. Lower console maintenance costs! I always put the max 30M into QA and it still costs me about half a million in upkeep? Like the MMO’s, it seems like they are useless, though I haven’t done the work to see exactly how much I make compared to how much it cost. A screen on that, just like they have for the game history, would be very useful

  2. Spend money in R&D or use research points and a worker to unlock which Topic/Platform matches go with which Audience/Genre. I have been playing about 40 hours and now it is just a boring series of making small games to learn this.

  3. The online sales platform does not seem to have an effect like it says it will when I release my own console, or is this a behind the scenes thing worked into the number of units sold? I know that is a question rather than an improvement idea, but still. Plus something to show what effect the “custom hardware” has. That doesn’t seem to do anything either…

  4. Have you workers gain points when they gain a level. If you have to pay them more, their tech/ design should go up to, right??

  5. I know it was already said in the OP, but MMO subscription fees!!! MMO’s are completely useless right now!!

  6. All of the console matches should be unlocked when you release your own, or be an option in R&D or something to quickly unlock. By the time I know what the good matches are, I’m paying too much in upkeep for it to be useful in any way. Just a money drain :frowning:

@WaveJones @Omaeka
Yes, but you do not get any reward/ income from MMO’s in this game. Only added expenses compared to a large or AAA game that is not MMO. It needs monthly subscription fees to offset the maintenance, then it is only unprofitable if you let your fans get bored by not releasing an update after so many years.

Oh! And be able to put more than one person in charge of a segment in the game production so they don’t burn out. I.E. Casual games are
Engine - - -
Gameplay + + +
Story/Quest - -

but if you max out gameplay then you burn out the one employee and it lowers the score, even though that’s what needs the most time, and by a very wide margin!

I’d have to disagree about the MMO comment, I’ve made 32,708.3M off one MMO that I had up for only a few years, and that’s my profit, not my income.

\\ GOOGLE TRANSLATE \\ (May contain some inaccuracies).
Also, most need to be able to set the price of the game (if it is not issued by the publisher.) The price should affect the marketability of the game and profit from it. To, for example, could issue a series of cheap or free games that she had a lot of fans and then set a high price for a sequel, and thus make a good profit. That is, it is necessary to expand marketing opportunities. You also need to make the story consoles (as with games) because it is impossible to understand the console has paid off or not.

Strange, I have had 9 or better review scores on AAA MMO’s and it still wares out around a year after. How are your non-MMO games doing? My AAA’s earn $18 whether high review or not, MMO or not. So far I have not had any games make that much money though, only 100M’s, never broke a billion in sales I don’t think…

I realized after posting that that the recent updates have made MMO’s much harder to gain money on/maintain. My new MMO made 873 Million versus the last MMO’s 32 Billion. As for my non-MMO’s, a recent one of mine made 224 million.
