Don't quite understand the game

Hi, first I’d like to say that this was the single best inpulse purchase I’ve made in a while.

However, I’ve gotten past the storyline and have entered the endgame sandbox but I still don’t understand how to make the extremely successful games. Every AAA title I realse sells 10+M but the reviews are always so poor, 6-8 at best. I released an RPG which got 10/10/10/11 and the sequel, despite being on a brand new engine with tons of new story, dialogue, level and world design features with much better trained specialized staff the game actually did pretty badly in the reviews, getting 7’s with one 6, and I can’t understand why.

Also, does anyone have a tip on how to break 100M sales without an expansion pack with an MMO? I guess I could wait until the game slowly hits the 100M figures and take the server cost hit, but I made an MMO which like my RPG got three 10’s and an 11, and once it got to the 50M mark the sales slowed down to a crawl and I was losing 5M a week from server costs so I had to release an expansion to push it forward. When it hit 100M the Unobtainium award didn’t pop, and as I recently found out, MMOs with expansions can’t get it, it has to be a standalone game/MMO. Like I said I could wait for the vanilla MMO to crawl to 100M but even with 2,500M cr the server costs bleed me dry.

Could anyone help a noob out?

I’d love some feedback as well - My first MMO went unprofitable in no time at all, and the expansion pack did little to help it become popular (and thus profitable) again.
