Do each part of an engine have a greater effect depending on each genre or is it just more $ = better?

Just wanted to straighten this out…

Is Virtual Reality goggles for example going to be the best thing you should aim to put in a game in that certain category simply because its the most expensive… or is it more beneficial to consider other options because they may fit the genre better?

Actually, what is the influence of different parts of the engine in general? I either can’t see enough benefits from putting stuff into the game (dev costs are more often higher than the additional, if any, profit I can get) or I am doing something wrong and can’t figure it out…

@Ixolite: Engine parts affect the same category that they belong to (i.e. “Better A.I.” affects game’s AI, “Open World” affects game’s World Design, etc). The affinity between each of those categories and resulting quality depends on game’s genre (Strategies should focus AI while Adventures should focus Story, etc).

PS: But I too don’t know the answer to OP’s question. So far I haven’t met with any evidence that there are any extra hidden effects in those engine parts.

I found it always obscure that you could, theoretically, use top notch 3D Graphics and stuff for a Gameling. I believe you should stick with what is “appropiate” for the consoles.

So it is essentially a boost in given category and as such I’m going back to OP question?

Exactly. I’m HOPING at least that it’s not just “Whatever is more expensive to research is the best thing to use” and there’s rhyme and reason to the engine parts. If not,I hope they could actually implement this as it makes a ton more sense and opens up more strategy.
