I’d just like to say I know the game is considered finished by GHG right now, this is just something I was thinking for a bit and may as well post here to share =).
One thing I would love to see is the ability to research DLC around the time it would realistically be available to research in the game.
I imagine it being a bit like expansion packs for MMO’s currently are, but more like making a separate mini game for a low cost, sold at low price. For example, if you had a popular RPG series you could choose the, ‘additional storyline’ feature for the DLC you want to put in. If you had a racing game franchise you could instead maybe choose to put in ‘additional levels’. Etc etc you get the idea. You could have a few generic kinds of dlc like that, that would be more fit for certain kinds of games than others.
Once you have selected which type of DLC you want to put in, you could get something like just one set of 3 sliders that are more specific to the kind of dlc you want to add in. This would be to ensure that it feels like making a small dlc pack, rather than making a full game again (a bit like expansion packs currently are).
The way income would be generated off this would be a small boost in sales for the original game (simulating those who were made aware of the game, or were inspired to buy the game because of the DLC) and also a percentage of people who bought the game in the first place would buy the DLC for their copy of the game (each unit being worth less money than a full game of course)
If the game was good in the first place, and the DLC is received well then a lot of people would be willing to buy it. If the game was bad in the first place, even if your DLC is as good as can be, you still will only get a small amount of DLC sold. All of this would be based off a percentage of how many units of the game were sold in the first place to prevent somehow more DLC copies of a game being sold than actual units.
Of course this could all be refined it’s just something off the top of my head but it’s just something I thought would be cool and I hadn’t really seen posted here.
