Debate on tips for novices on Game Dev Tycoon

Hello everyone.

We (the most of the people here), are advanced player on this hit-game (and the first of GreenHeart), Game Dev Tycoon. I think it’s time to debate about what tips we need to give to novices. Rookies can be confused with the lots of option that Game Dev offer.

Personally, i advise players who begin to make game on G64 until the computer have a lower marketshare than the PC. G64 is good with Adventure and Strategy, so they can alternate the two genres. After each game, make a game report to obtain research points and insight about what topic, genre and platform match with each others. Wait for Casual genre before making games on TES and Master V, because it is their only great genre combination. I have a lot of others things to share, but I think i will wait for your answers to comment about what users posted.

Cordially, Okihiro.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I tend to be more successful when I don’t sign a contract with a publisher. Has anyone else experienced this?

If you play endgame and want to make as much capital as you can, here’s what I recommend:

  • Always create a AAA game. This will take at least ~9 months.
  • During the debugging process, send all of your employees to vacation. To speed up debugging, activate your character’s boost if you have it.
  • After releasing the game, train the hell out of your employees. If you have any researches left to be done, do it now.
  • When the vacation bar shows up on ALL of your employees, send them to vacation again.
  • Repeat steps 1-4 until you get hella cash.

I think it depends on which employees you hire and when.

Life is Strange reference?

You’re talking about the reviews we get or the amount of units sold (“sucessful” mean a lot of things in Game Dev Tycoon)?

Either way. It doesn’t really matter which because I have never gotten a good rating but bad sales on a game. Has anyone ever gotten a 8+ out of 10 and still didn’t sell well? Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention, but the two seem to be interchangeable when discussing success.

money.

It is possible to sold a good amount of copies and get a bad review. It depends principally on the console you release the game (marketshare of the console), your fanbase and the interview or marketing campain you applied during the developpment of a game.

Last week i got 4.25 and sold ~ 7M copies, and won ~ 100M $

Have you or anyone else gotten a good rating but bad sales? I suppose trends could affect this.

I think trends can affect the sales of a game. I released a Mature rated game, and one week after a trend for Young games occured, and that affected seriously my sales. But since i’m not sure, it can be just coincidence.
