Creating Games in real life?

I would like to start making games in real life and was wondering if you could give some advice. thanks
And if anyone wants to help look for me on skype: joshua Billard

Don’t give up - there may be setbacks, (and it can happen A LOT in the gaming industry) but don’t give up. If you’re looking to “hook up a crew” or however the young hooligans call it these days, I’m learning to code and could help make games.

alright thanks and i would love any help i could get.

Alright

any way I can keep contact with you or do you just want to PM eachother on the forums? Also it’d be nice to know if you’re in the EST timezone or not so we know when to talk with eachother.

I am in the EST time zone. USA
Is there anyway we could message through the mail system?

Programmer? That’s a rare find in the indie dev world

I’ve been down this path, as well. I spent a while trying to put together a team, but didn’t get anywhere. I had a few volunteers, but they all lost interest and disappeared on me after a few weeks. I shelved the project to work on a novel, but I’m not sure if it’s “on the back burner while I work on other stuff” or “a hopeless time-sink I’ve pretty much given up on.” I have a partially done wiki that’s now invalid because of recent decisions, and an empty forum with announcements describing those decisions. I have a chunk of the design document finished, but I haven’t touched it in months.

Good luck to you. I hope your attempt is more successful than mine was.

If you are looking for some hands on experience, i suggest start using Gamemaker.
There is a free version available on steam.

I have tried gamemaker but i am now on to using unity3d and a 3d modeling software named blender

thank you @Akamadoushi

Uhm let’s see if i have other advise that does not require me to type a wall of text.

Extra Credits

An entertaining game dev focusses info channel.

But you might already heard of it

ok thanks and i havent heard of it. Do you know of a way to “private” message people?

If you wish to private message someone on this forum, then you can click on their name and select the ‘Private Message’ option.

yeah

Hey nice to see you here Joshua!

Blender is great and the Niftools guys are super helpful.

I’d suggest trying out some of the free dev kits as well.

Unity3D has a bunch of free assets you can get from their store, and video tutorials on Youtube.
GameMaker has a restricted free version, but it’s suite package stuff costs a lot for a hobbyist/someone just starting.
Construct 2 also has a free version, but it also has one of the lowest purchase cost for what it exports, and is designed for “easy to use, hard to master” philosophy which makes it versatile but accessible. It exports in only HTML5, but uses Node-Webkit for desktop exports. (Mobile exports are possible with 3rd party wrapping services.

Getting together with people may be something you would be interested in, in which I suggest looking for a team with an open position. I also suggest trying to do solo things yourself as well, fiddling with the tools and making interesting things. Don’t be afraid to fail at making an idea work, or having an idea turn out not-fun. Everything starts out not polished, so it’s better to make sure it’s fun before you polish.

I can help on the team! I have some coding experience, as well as vast experience in economics. I am the CEO of my own game company, GameDroid Studios. By the way, I am on the EST time zone. If you are interested, PM me and I’ll give you my Skype.
