I think it would be really interesting to not just have the ability to create sequel on top of sequel but after a sequel or 2 to have the ability to designate the games as a franchise. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Mass Effect, BioShock, etc… etc… etc… all make their big money because they have a large audience of die-hard fans invested in their game experience who would play the games even if there is little to no innovation or bad reviews.
You mean like making shirts and other merchandise?
Isn’t this just what repeatedly sequelizing a game represents anyways?
I suppose that’s the kind of things that come from a franchise, but I mean that in the current game if you start releasing similar titles over and over they don’t sell well and you’re told variety helps the market not stagnate and you’ll make more money that way. There should be a way that you can release a popular came, and then designate it as a franchise to make sequel after consecutive sequel on the market.
In an ideal world, people would refuse to buy franchises due to the fact that two thirds of them contribute nothing new to the market… They ought to just keep playing the games they already have rather than buying endless reclones. ):
Another problem is that the game doesn’t let you work on multiple games simultaneously. Your game dev house is unusually snappy in producing games (perhaps because of your Founder’s time-travelling stock of Great Game Ideas From the Future), but they’re also tiny. The big houses working on those franchises are also doing lots of side projects that help keep the staff and fanbase from critical boredom.
