Could use a way to do some market research to find what demographic each system caters to

It seems pointless to have demographics yet no way to tell which demographic caters to a certain system. Do we all just assume anything handheld is for kids and casuals and PC’s are for mature?

The announcement blurb for a given platform usually offers a clue as to what might sell well. For example, the Gameling (Gameboy) is a primarily ‘Young’ affair, but the Vena Gear (GameGear) is better suited for mature audiences.

The best way of doing market research is to launch a game. If a game combo tanks, then reading the reviews can give some clue as to what went wrong.

When a game tanks, it’ll often let you know if it was due to the wrong audience/system combination.

When you create games, after you release them and it gives you the experience, it gives a multiplier bonus for various things. One of these is for making a good match between the genre/theme, keep track of these and remember which ones go well together.

good idea. at the moment you need some knowledge of the real-life consoles to work it out.
