Console Milking

I’ve a quite simple question, really. Are you supposed to be able to milk consoles by constantly producing new ones with little-or-not-at-all updated feature profiles?

Appears to never run out of selling power. It does however start to run out of profit power eventually.

Hi,
Don’t forget that a console needs :

  • 154M if fully upgraded
  • around 20 months of development when the research lab is funded to the maximum (3M/month)
Total : an endgame level console will cost you around 214M, and sells around 50 each. You’ll need 4.28M consoles sold to keep up with your initial investment.
After that, you’ll need about 500k a month for maintenance. If you milk consoles continuously, it’ll take another 20 months to make the next one that’s 10M of maintenance costs to add, that’s to say you’ll need to sell another 200k consoles.

Conclusion, if in 20 months, you’re able to sell more than 4.5M consoles (rounded), you’ll be able to “milk” consoles for no profit. If you can sell more, every console will grant you 50 more money.

My console earnings start at 300M per console. Sometimes I earn more. Sometimes I earn much more. 500M from a console release doesn’t perk my ears.

I generally have 2-6 months of gap in which the console lab isn’t working on the successor, so that’s 22-26 months to gain that much.

That would require 600K per month to maintain 0 backlog. Eventually you hit the point where the income from sales is less than the maintenance log.

With only one tech specialist, past the very first weeks where there are a LOT of sales, I keep 510k per month, and the backlog never ever grows.
I think you’d have to wait really a long time without making a game for your own console before sales don’t keep up with maintenance costs : for 510k per month, if you sell more than 125k a week, you’re OK.

The problem is 300k is needed per hardware lab person. Anything less nothing happens beyond 1 person. The only change is when the maximum is reached it has a lesser cost.
