Imagine that you’re making action games with all engine & gameplay stuff, AI & level design, and all your crew members must be focused on technology. you have only technical professionals, but you don’t have any design specialists. “okay, you don’t need good scenery, it’s action game” - the game’s logic, but in real, sometimes good scenery makes game REALLY BETTER, THAN WITHOUT IT (even if it’s a shooter, focused on gameplay & engine as the mainframe). so, your crew members can’t write good scenery, even if they wanted to, and if they had enough time, so, logicaly, the right way is to buy already written scenery from someone, who writes books, or smth else, whatever, but this is real way to have lot of design point’s if your crew cannot do it. and when you have disign lab you can tell it’s members to write sceneries and dialogues, to create game world conception. why else would you need them? (it’s because they’re useless most times if you have reaserched all their projects, and only conventions are left.)
P.S., also you can do the same things if your crew is focused on adventure games, and there are no tech sepialists, you can pay right people to optimise the engine for the game, AI, and other stuff. (with missing technical parts of the game you can make tech lab do it, not design lab.)
