Okay - I know this isn’t a unique problem but I have the issue of starting the game, getting a temporary white screen and then going black. Can hear the game in the background and see the cursor changing to a hand to click on things but cannot see the game.
I have read other similar topics and tried to act on them, and had some advice on steam, but so far the only thing that seems to have worked is to uninstall the graphics cards which is NOT a suitable solution.
I have Windows 8.1 64 bit, with a Intel Core i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60Ghz, and 8GB of RAM.
I also have approx. 600GB of spare hard drive space.
Additionally I have a basic graphics card Intel HD 4000 and a dedicated graphics card AMD Radeon HD 8750M with 2.5GB dedicated.
This should be more than enough to play the game perfectly - only it doesn’t work. Unless I uninstall my Radeon card so, what?, my radeon card is too good? Surely that shouldn’t be possible.
Even when I did get the game working, it started have flashing vertical lines popping up all over it which (probably I assume) is because there wasn’t a good enough graphics card involved. So it seems to be a no-win scenario?
Any ideas - because otherwise I have a game I cannot use.
I have run the AMD Catalyst control suite - that seems to be the only thing available as I have yet to see an option for manual install on the AMD site so rely on the auto-installers to install the newest drivers.
To be fair - I bought this laptop about a year ago predominantly for gaming since my last laptop was rubbish. All I have had since then is problems: with Skyrim, Crusader Kings 2, Company of Heroes 2 and many other things and it seems to be because, for some nonsensical reason, the laptop does not recognise the AMD graphics card as a primary and has a number of issues with running games it should be fine with.
Seems like I’m not the only one with this issue but no matter where I look I have not been able to find a simple, straight forward answer on how to fix it (especially since I’m not especially computer tech literate). Drives me insane… but will have another look on the AMD site.
One thing that could shed some light on this is opening up the ‘View Event Logs’ (just type that in on your windows 8 start screen to find it). Open ‘Windows Logs’, then ‘Application’ and see if there are any errors listed.
Sorry to hear about these troubles!
In this instance it sounds like the AMD Radeon HD 8750M is causing you many issues. I have done some research which showed some interesting findings such as;
The AMD Radeon HD 8750M has been known to only function (be turned on) when the
laptop is plugged into mains power. Once the laptop switches to battery
power the system defaults to the Intel HD 4000.
The latest drivers state that they are only designed for the
following; Latest AMD Catalyst™ Drivers for Radeon™ R9 200, R7 200,
HD 7000, HD 6000 and HD 5000 Series. As you can see they do not
mention the 8xxxx series at all so if these drivers are installed it
is likely that anything GPU intensive will not work as intended.
I would recommend using this site to gain information about such issues. I found many Radeon HD 8750M threads for users with similar issues;
