Banished - Anyone playing?

Hey! Anyone playing Banished here? If you love Game Dev Tycoon, you’d probably enjoy that too. I recommend watching arumba for the first playthrough. It is a city-creator where it focuses alot on survival and food and not on a big city. Hope to see some of you playing

I Saw Banished on pre-release, there were people making videos from that game.
And, this is a game mady by ONE Person!
(Respect for him)

I was watching Italyx (Gamers Dissent) play it. Looked fun.

Seriously? One guy? #respect

Ya this game is nice but is hard

You know guys that making a 3d game is less impossible than you think if you start with a 3rd party game engine.

I bet that 10 of you working together everyday and well organized can release a nice looking game in less then 4 months.

He Did it all except engine (Well he did some part) in 3 years…

Than try to imagine what 10 people can do

All the Atari Games Team had 5 Moths to complete E.T. And It wasn’t too much…
(It is one of worst games EVA).
So we can see that technologiez!

You are underestimating a one person developer. You have to start with a premade engine, else you’re gonna spend your entire budget on that and eventually go bankrupt. Even though you use an engine, there is a crap ton of code he’s made himselves.

cough Minecraft cough

Although I don’t think the MC engine was very complicated back when it was a one man project, it was still made by one person…

Only frist versions were made by one person.
And, Minecraft and Banished…

Just Look at Minecraft Indev, and Banished. Banished is full and completed, Minecraft wasn’t.

one guy?

Food is a pain in the ass…all my villages die because of it…even when i have like 9 fishermans…and 2 forest gathers…they still die because of starvation

You might consider only building just enough houses to make it easier to spread y our food.

Yeah…first 2 years i was having a total die out…then i started farming beans…it deliverd 5000 baskets of food…so now i have a small village wich is gathering his own resources…

now building first big project: the trade place, where i can sell stuff to merchants (have to much stone xd)

I have a lot of people dieing from giving birth…is there a way to solve this xd?

Never said it’s an easy task, but that making a 3d game is way less complex than what most people think. Within 3 years you can write billions of lines of code and GigaBytes of 3d models also if you are a beginner.

In 2014 people can make a simple shooter with collision detection, physics, shaders and health-damage mechanics within 30 minutes of Unity.

Still I’m not saying it’s simple and who releases a game on steam is just someone with a lot of spare time.

Only saying that also people without development skills can make a good game in a reasonable time, it’s just about working in the right way with the right spirit

Unity isn’t easy either. Yes, its the foundation for a game. Got tons of templates. But you still have to write TONS of code. Can you show me a game you, a beginner, have made in 3 years? To prove what you’re talking about?

Well, since I’m a beginner, I’ve never had 3 years of full-time spare time in game developing, but now and then I made a couple of projects (one even without a game engine) and I say it’s an hard task but way not impossible.

About the proofs, you can have tons of them here: https://unity3d.com/showcase/gallery

Several of games showed in that list are make by only one person and took way less then 3 years (but I’m sure they were not beginners).

10 well motivated, organized, wanna-learn and beginner people can make a very nice looking game in less then 6 months, guaranteed!
