How do I force an already existing research to appear?

You edit an already exisiting research’s trigger to true.

Set a DataStore variable to true when you want it to appear, then change the research’s trigger so that it checks that variable. For example, for the dialogue tree research:

var oriCanResearch = Research.dialogueTree.canResearch;
Research.dialogueTree.canResearch = function(company) {
    return oriCanResearch(company) || GDT.getDataStore("mymod").data.dialogueTreeAppears;
};
