Other than pc, which I already have, I would get a PS4 IF there were more everyone games, which there a little of, so I would rather go with Wii U because almost all the games are everybody rated.

I think it is safe to assume people can buy and use multiple platforms.

PC - I have one, I will get PC in the future.

Why do I use the PC? I use PCs for more than 25 years…I remember that when I got it from a “friend of a friend”, I was happy. Bringing a PC to the eastern block and not having to pay a fortune as taxes… Now that wasn’t easy. I loved my first PC even if it didn’t have too many games on it. It was an XT compatible with an EGA card and a color monitor. Friends who bought a Commodore, etc. had more games. But I had Turbo Pascal. A bit later I got my hands on a few games, but Turbo Pascal stayed.

PC is important because it helps with hobbies as well. Virtual tabletop for pen and paper RPGs, ability to create character art… And of course hobbyist game development. Hey, thanks to DAZ Studio I can replace most of the ugly but functional “programmer art” (like a button there and here) with actual graphics

XBOX One - I have one, I will get other XBOX Devices.

Well, Microsoft won me over with 2 things. XNA (and XBOX Live Independent Games)… And Kinect. Kinect is not only a controller, but can be used as motion capture tool for DAZ Studio, or even for game development. I wanted Kinect, so got an XBOX 360… I enjoyed some exercise with it…

And as it will be easy to release some universal apps (including games) to XBOX One, it was a good thing to choose this platform. But as you see I haven’t mentioned normal console gaming, with normal controller. When I was young we didn’t have a console, and most friends were without one as well. So for me the controller isn’t an “old friend” but instead of a clumsy device. So I bought quite a few games for PC even if I had an XBOX 360 version… So for XBOX One I don’t buy too many games.

Experimenting with using kinect in applications, being a Microsoft partner, etc. also made XBOX One as an important platform.

If companies try to add a room where their employees can take short breaks (like US Army, etc. does) i usually recommend XBOX platform and can even recommend them good games. So I guess I would even recommend the platform.

The developer tools for the platform seem to be rather friendly I think.

PS 4 - I don’t have one. It is unlikely if I would get PS 4, It is somewhat unlikely that I would get future Sony consoles.

Due to how multiple different subsidiaries handle security, and safety of customer data, how I found both quality and product safety issues with Sony products (some battery scandal if you remember that, their DRM scandal, etc) I boycott Sony, so unless some really pressing reasons would make me consider a PS 4, I won’t get one. For most classic gaming I consider the PC better than the consoles anyway, and for kinect type stuff, XBOX One is better.

Wii U - I don’t have one. It is extremely unlikely that I would get a console like this.

Well… Wii U is a Nintendo console. If you grew up with various Nintendo Consoles some of the games would invoke memories and that can be a powerful source of fun. But I had no Nintendo Console, and don’t like platformers, and don’t like a lot of other genres where it excels. I prefer Kinect for motion based controller over the Wii Controller. Have more than enough games already… So so far, so bad.

you are saying sony pissed everyone off with DRM?! srsly!? microsoft wanted to sell you a spying device and they wanted DRM

It isn’t a spying device. And all consoles have a DRM.

But Sony while Sony had some interesting and acceptable DRM, they used some DRM on a few products that installed software on your system in the background without consent, that had several big security holes that was exploited by actualy malware, etc.

Installing rootkits on your device that disables most of your security and can hide any 3rd party malware because it is flawed by design is an issue in itself. When Sony leadership said most users don’t know what a rootkit is, and if there is a risk, etc so why should they care? Now that incident done millions of dollars of damage to Sony customers.

When the PSN hack happened later, for some time they denied the fact that it affected other customers (SOE for example) as well. Yet their personal information and several credit card numbers were leaked. And it was found out that their security had big holes and were taking extreme risks. Some of the users are even after years still waiting for the help and compensation promised by Sony.

Since then there were issues with battery safety, and again “the users doesn’t understand the fine details” and Sony thought they shouldn’t care for your safety and security.

Since that there were numerous incidents when various Sony subsidiaries got hacked, and all the time it was found out that their security practices were practically nonexistent, they took extreme risks. And it involved leaking not only their sensitive data, but confiddental information about their partners and customers as well.

THAT isn’t about existence of DRM. Or having one in your system. Or… It is a pretty big scandal and serious enough to boycott any and all Sony products. This means: No Sony devices. No media sold by Sony where they had access to it. And no software from Sony. Content (music, movies) from their publishers and studios are acceptable ONLY if they come from a trusted 3rd party vendor, who replaced all Sony DRM, scripts, menus, etc. (all pieces of software) with their own.

Ohh, and about they approach for Next Gen consoles and DRM…

I am sure you understand a basic principle: Success of a developer doesn’t depend on amount of pirates. It depends on amount of customers.

There are two platforms…

  • Platform A: 800.000 would play your game, but 700.000 would use a pirated copy, 100.000 would buy it.
  • Platorm B: 600.000 would play your game. 50.000 would pirate it, 500.000 would use an used copy (maybe they get it from a friend, maybe they bought it) and 50.000 buys it.

And on the later platform the creator of the platform gets a cut from the incom.

Which platform would you chose?

Microsoft wanted a DRM to solve this problem. But their DRM idea was pretty permissive. It would give you far more freedom than Steam, and you would have an option to lend games to friends living in other cities our countries. It would have came with the system and would be safe… And more importantly most of those permissions would be here for the customer for granted. But the publisher had an option to decide: he doesn’t want those limitation, and give you more freedom.

Sony on the other hand decided that DRM should come with the game from the developer. It could contain malware. It could be risky. And it could limit you every way possible. But at least they shouldn’t finance the related development. And if their titles get protected by a custom DRM that can be pretty risky for the customer… again.

ok

Why do you argue with people, and then when you’re wrong you just say “ok”? Like seriously dude, if you can’t debate with people, don’t start with them.
