I just can't win

There are many different strategies to follow and that’s what make this game so terrific (amongst many other things).

Here’s what I usually do:

-I inmediately leave the office as soon as I release a hit game and I’m above 1’5M cash.

  • From this point, and deppending on the circumstances:
  1. I hire one additional guy to make two more small sized, good quality
    games… or
  2. I hire two guys at the same time (a complex algorythms
plus a game demo employee), I research medium games and I rely on
publishing deals until I get enough money as to research new game add.ons and create a powerful engine, usually my 2nd at this point.

It usually gets me good results. I’ve seen people who are capable of going through the entire game without releasing a single game with publishing deals. The trick, no matter what strategy you follow, is being consistent with your games and be always close to your previous best game score (if not better).

The reason going straight to max staff in the tech park office is recommended is because having any “new” employee working on their first game will force the rating down to 8s. This way you only have one game that gets penalised.

In fact since only 9+ games are impacted by the “newbie” employee penalty it is optimal to deliberately aim for 7.5-8 ratings (so a game score of exactly the same as your last hit) so that you don’t waste a chance to increase your game score and post a proper 9+ hit later on.

Oh, and new employees will ruin two hit games if they were “tired” when you started the production of the first. So always wait until all your new employee’s “tired” bar is back to full before starting their first game.
