I love that movie

Well, today is Independence Day for Venezuela, Algeria, and Cape Verde  :flags:

Those are fish flags that are usually hung in Japan. I forgot their name, but i think it has a holiday dedicated to those flags?

The norwegian ‘independence’ day is pretty special. (Its on the 17th of May)

What happened was that after the Napoleanic wars ended, the peace treaty included Norway being ceded to Sweden. In the two weeks before the treaty was signed by the swedish king, Norway was independent. (The swedish king was returning home from battle) We hurried 112 people to ‘Eidsvoll’ to write the law. When we got into the union with Sweden, the King just had to accept the law with a few changes of course. So Norway was semi-independent. The day the law was finished was 17th of May, 1814. Which is not our independence day, but it says so on Wikipedia but who cares. The tensions were high between Norway and Sweden, and a quick war saw Norway independent.

NOTE: The ‘peaceful’ annexation of Norway wasn’t peaceful. A war started on that moment, but Norway quickly lost.

My browser was like “502 Bad Getaway” until now

lol that reminds me that Denmark actually captured sweden and norway  we’re the superior and we held norway the longest time ha

Fun fact: Today (Seven of July) we celebrate the independence of the Solomon Islands!

Captured? That was a rather peaceful ‘capturing’ then. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, you lost both.

We had parts of german and england too and we lost it when we converted to christian belief

also it’s believed that vikings found america first because they have found evidence of vikings

*Norwegian vikings. Leiv Erikson, from Iceland/Greenland, was the first to discover America from the western sphere.

EDIT: The Kingdom of Norway at its biggest

i never said that the danish vikings were the first to do it. i just said vikings

Silly Danish people.

Just kidding :stuck_out_tongue: Dere laver gode fladbrød

the reason Danish and Norwegian language is so similar is because we had norway for so long

Actually, we spoke Danish but because norwegians are real patriots we created our own.

well it’s not very good created since it’s based on ours lol

? Danish is based on German, which was the grandfather of all nordic languages. Also, how can you say its not well created when you dont know how it is?

It is not 4th of July anymore. It’s the 7th of July. Shush.

@tmch actually it’s 8th of july here, we can all have a educational time here! lol

@stian Danish and German has changed so far from each other than it used to apart from norwegian and danish the grammar and the way of typing still reminds of each other a lot

Nope, North Germanic. Learn your history.
