The other day I mentioned making 18 Pony Quest games, not counting direct sequels, in my most recent complete play-through. I also happened to make 2 consoles before endgame on that same play-through, but I wasn’t as excited as the first time I got a console done before endgame. Anyway, I opened up GDT to get some screen shots for the review thread, and decided that I should also screenshot the entire Pony Quest series to prove once and for all that I am absolutely out of ideas for titles at this point. For some reason, Pony RPGs were more hit-and-miss than usual this time around. The exclusion of the word “pretty” from the title must have affected sales. Oh, and I also started out on Vena systems instead of Nivento this time. I wonder if that had an effect?
Rather than wait on the sequel tech to become available, I decided to just release several games with the same title and numbers stuck to the end. Because they main series games are only tacitly related to begin with, because this is the colorfultalkinghorse version of final fantasy. I only used the sequel option when developing Pony Quest XII: Candle Cove, Pony Quest VII: This is not the Way, and Pony Quest IX: Journey North. As opposed to previous play-throughs, in which I made each game a direct sequel to the last, and I had to space them out more (and I called them Pretty Pony RPG).
I feel like I was going to say something else here, but it’s almost 4 in the morning and I’m kind of out of it. Whatever. When in doubt, ponies. Because games I make about robots and goblins and werewolves and devil gunners just don’t seem to be as crowd-pleasing.
Edit: I remembered what I was going to say! Words cannot describe the explosive, child-like glee I felt when Pony Quest VIII got all 8s from the in-game reviewers. 8, 8, 8, and 8 for an average score of 8 on PQ8. Can GDT interpret titles? Don’t tell me, I want to believe that was on purpose.
