Steam version for original owners?

I just wanted to ask this, I found this game about a week ago on Steam Greenlight and immediately upvoted it. Then I found out that a Windows 8 version was available already, but as I am still using Win7 I couldn’t play this yet. Now I am using Windows 8 through VMWare and after playing the trial I bought the game on there.

Now I wanted to know, when GDT get’s released on Steam, will original buyers of the game get a Steam key? The game runs flawless in VMware but still it would be much easier and nicer to play this game using my Steam client where I have about 80% of my games on

(Side question: is anyone else having a hard time keeping their company up from going bankrupt? I’ve started 5 times over so far and still when I have a good amount of money like 1M I could go bankrupt pretty fast)

We don’t know if we can provide steam keys for Windows Store customers because Microsoft doesn’t provide us with the necessary customer information. However, we do plan to start selling the game directly from our website at the end of this month or shortly thereafter and we will most likely be able to give out steam keys (if and when we get on Steam) for people who bought it directly from us. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee anything until we are actually on Steam and know how the system works.

My recommendation (if you can wait) is to buy the game directly from us once it is available.

Well I would have bought it from your site, but I already bought it through the Windows Live Store last week.
I have no experience in coding etc. but would it be possible to make an update which gives every bought copy some genuine license/license key? Which could then be redeemed on the main site and then hand out a Steam key. I’ve seen other games (like Euro Truck Sim 2) use this method.

I investigated this a bit more and I think we should be able to provide keys for Win8 customers too. No guarantee yet but I think it’s likely.

Do you not get emailed a receipt from MS you can use as proof?

@Daryl Yes you do (just checked the email that I used for my account there) but I don’t think it’s of any use for the devs since they probably can’t check any of the info that is given.

@PatrickKlug If you think you could use the Billing ID or Paypal ID I can PM these to you so you can try it out

There is a way to verify purchases through Microsofts servers which should allow us to provide keys to existing Win8 customers.

Great to hear!
I’m 100% sure you’ll get greenlit on Steam, lots of people want a game like this and it doesn’t exist yet

Many would argue that, but they’d forget about the “PC/Mac/Linux” part.
