Complaining about piracy when you stole the entire game concept and design?

They don’t sell Far Cry as “Call of Far” or Call of Duty as “Far Duty” or whatever.

Oooh “inspired”, buzzwords are fun!

So hold on the name is what you’re arguing against here? Why are you on the forum if you’re so angry. The games good. It’s innovative, fun and overall and improvement on GDS.

I completely don’t understand why there has to be no more gamedev games on PC (which for sure will have much similarities to each other because of the same genre) if some cool phones have a gamedev game working on them
It’s better to not whining about similarities between GDS and GDT but enjoy both of’em ^^

so what you’re saying is that if I make a HD mod for doom and call it “doomed” I can easily sell it for $30?

There’s the thing. You’re basing your argument off screenshots.

Kairosoft seems to have no interest in continuing GDS. They haven’t released a new game in the series in years – the iPhone and Android GameDevStory is a port of GDS2 which was released on PC in 1997. They also haven’t released it on Windows Phone or the Windows Store, nor have they released an English version for traditional operating systems.

Greenheart saw a hole in the market and took it, and were successful with it. You can’t fault them for that.

Just buy him a copy of the game and he can try it. God.

There was a huge discussion on reddit about this:

In short, we did not rip-off GDS. We were inspired by it and said that all along but our game is our own creation. Anyway, if you try it out you might like it. Many other GDS players have enjoyed our take on the genre a great deal.

Why would I give my money to the likes of him?

Do you want to argue with him on an equal basis or not? If you already know you don’t have the same basis to argue off, you might as well give up. Otherwise, make the field equal.

what you’re saying is that I can take any non-english game
rip it off
and sell it
don’t mind me I,m going to make a enhanced English version of Ys and sell it for $50!

Car races games and FPS game are a genre.
You put a guy in a car and you make him drive, that’s the core of the game.
Where everyone innovates, Nintendo putting power ups and their mascot in their games, F1 where you drive a F1, Burnout where you drive in a city which was one of the first to propose a highly realistic physics engine with cars deforming upon impact, etc… GDT has just copied GDS in any way possible.
The core of these kind of game is, you’re a guy making a game company, but I wonder how they could make GDT about as much technically advanced as GDS which is 16 years older, talk about innovation !

This game isn’t innovative, though. Even if it is, it is abusing the existing popularity of Game Dev Story to draw customers. The confusion has been enough to warrant sales, and that is a warning sign when it comes to abusing other people’s intellectual property, be it name, execution, look, or game play. These things are evaluated on a very individual basis, which means we can’t really judge if this is overstepping boundaries or not. However, by saying it is in no way doing something unethical, even all the way down to calling the game the same, will do this discussion no good, and please refrain from attacking the people vocalizing their concerns with this game. This could equally much be considered looking out for Green Heart Games, in keeping them out of getting a Cease And Desist letter from some lawyer.

Kairosoft have been around since the 90s. Their games are numerous, their games are great. It is never fair to ‘be inspired’ insomuch as you’d leech of something’s popularity, and its quality is none the matter.

It’s not me who entered this knowing nothing about the game. I played GDS for years. I loved it and yet I can still appreciate how amazing GDT is. It’s just a shame people want to rush to be the hero who stands up for Kairosoft. Attempting to be some kind of vanguard.

Danny, you are creating straw-men, you are attacking people, you are obfuscating the problem at hand. No one has proposed being a hero for Kairosoft, no one has insinuated that that is their motivation. Fairness might be a better word, as it is unethical to steal off a player base someone else have built up. These laws exist for a reason, and disregarding them because you think the game is good is never relevant, and it is not relevant for this discussion. Please refrain from using the aforementioned tools to obscure the matter at hand.

The game industry is based on inspiration and innovation. At no point did they milk the popularity of GDS hence until today it was a nice small community. GDT has innovated and improved upon a genre. Just because Kairosoft made a game dev simulator doesn’t mean no one else can. Also I would point out GDS was not an ‘original’ idea either.

I’ve watched the game play video.
You complain about the fact that I haven’t played GDT but I’m about as sure you haven’t played GDS.

It’s your opinion. I find that these two games different. Maybe you know the case of Tiny Tower. That was for me a real copy what Zynga made. But here, i don’t see it.

The matter at hand is a fallacy. Much like reddit’s attempt to be the hero of Boston Bombings that lead to the death of an innocent man. It’s a mob mentality that see something they see as ‘injustice’ and attack all while thinking they are some kind of internet vanguard’s making things fair and equal.
